The human wrist is a complex joint, containing many tendons and nerves. These delicate tissues all pass through a narrow sheath of bone and ligament, called the carpal tunnel. A wide range of activities, from typing to construction work, can inflame the median nerve, which controls motion and sensation on the thumb side of the hand.
